Welcome back to school! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful gifts and treats. I feel so loved and appreciate your kindness.

We are in it for the long haul now and this is my favorite time of year. This is when I start seeing your children really become ready for 1st grade. They continue to mature, their reading takes off (which for many of them this has already happened) and we get into the little bit more challenging math: addition and subtraction.

Practicing sight words has never been more important. These are very difficult words that can not be sounded out. They can stump a child in their reading. Knowing these will keep their confidence high as we begin to learn more difficult phonograph sounds (th, sh, ph, wh, ng, ea, ck, etc.) and use them in words and reading. So far we have 4 students who have passed off on all 6 sight word lists. Great work!

I will be looking for parents to help at our Community Member Day on Feb. 24 from 8:45-9:45! This is a day where you, or a friend/relative, gets to come into the classroom and show the students what you do at your job. It consists of finding a 10-15 minute activity that we rotate in centers. If you are interested, please let me know!

Reminder there is NO SCHOOL on Monday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If you need anything, please ask!

Mrs. Korn
